The Project
Throughout this project, health is viewed holistically and targeted through multi-faceted efforts designed to create healthier environments and healthful ways living. This project was launched in August 2003, under the aegis of Isha Foundation. It aims to benefit the rural people in 54,000 villages in Tamil Nadu, South India. It will be implemented in two phases over a period of 15 years. Thereafter, it is envisaged that local communities will sustain the project activities independently.
Highlights
ARR is a predominantly volunteer run initiative carefully structured to suit local conditions. ARR firmly believes in the inherent potential of individuals and communities to take responsibility for their own lives and contribute toward sustainable positive change. ARR serves as a support for fostering an environment conducive to increased personal accountability and community responsiveness by providing select tools and resources to address immediate needs and ensure optimal health and well-being.
Achievements
ARR was launched on August 22, 2003 in Gobichettypalayam, Erode district. In a short span of 15 months, the program has profoundly touched the lives of several thousand villagers. Serving as a catalyst for individual and community transformation, the program has recieved much acclaim from local, national and international dignitaries. Due to the overwhelming response of the villagers and the perseverance of ARR volunteers, expansion of this program into other districts of Tamil Nadu, as well as other Indian states, is currently underway.
